The dollar is a unit of value, just as the kg is a unit of mass, the meter is a unit of length, the second is a unit of time, and the Coulomb is the unit of charge.
The question is, “What is a unit?”

A kilogram has two meanings, the metaphysical kg, which is a concept, an amount of mass that is 1000 x 1 gram, and 1/1000 x 1 metric ton.
This is not a useful measurement in the physical world because in the realm of mass there is no inherent markers of the kilogram.
