The Future of Social Security
This is what we've been predicting since the mid '90s. The three ways the federal/state governments will deal with the promise they can't keep:
1. Means Test: If you did the right thing and saved, your financials will make you eligible for less of the social security and Medicare benefits. This will be done either through an outright reduction up front or through a complicated tax based on adjusted gross income on the back end.
2. Higher Taxes: If you did the right thing and saved, your financials will make you 'eligible' to pay a higher tax because of course you can 'afford' it.
3. Inflate the currency: By inflating the currency, the cost of the problem for the government will be smaller. Unfortunately, the size of the loaf of bread you'll be able to afford will also be smaller.
